I just bought the listerine pre-rinse stuff yesterday but haven't opened it thank god. (my dental hygenist recommended it). Now I'll go straight back to the drug store today and return it. I recommend Tom's of Maine natural toothpastes. Why do you think toothpastes are not recommended for kids under 6 and the tubes says to take to poison center in emergency room if kids under 6 ingest it.

Like I have to beat a dead horse ... I started using Arm & Hammer "Brilliant Sparkle" toothpaste, and also rinsing with Listerine Advanced mouthwash. Literally the morning after, I had mouth goo and didn't realize it until I was on my way to work (when I started trying to deal with it in the good ol' LA rush--only way to get rid of them was to eat them ... people probably thought I was cleaning my fingers after a morning pastry).
-
I initially suspected the peroxide, as it has extremely potent effects on our body. But being paranoid, I went back and forth from "I'm dying" to "oh, it's just the peroxide." I'm glad I found this site ... There's no pain, just a mouthful of goo that appears sometime around 3AM (I wake up to it sometimes) and lasts until I "pick my boogers" out.
-
Peroxide is actually extremely harsh on bacteria, so the positive effect of this (more than likely) outweighs the negative. Although, I am somewhat concerned that, over time, it could turn into the mouth version of contact dermatitis. EIther way, thanks for the website. It's comforting to know that my suspicions are correct and that I'm not dying.

Every time I brush with Rembrandt "Intense Stain" or any other ABRASIVE toothpaste, I get the same stringy sloughed off skin too trapped between my teeth, drooping off gums, etc. In my Microbiology class, we were analyzing our own teeth scrapings and I pulled out my stringy winner and sure enough, it is composed of skin cells. It's irritating and I notice my mouth tends to become drier after use of those of toothpastes, as well. I agree with rinsing the mouth out several times, as a hydrated mouth reduces the frequency of the haunting "Mouth Boogers."

LISE,
Wow!!
Where have you been??
I knew it wasn't lichen Planus. I am telling you we have the same thing. The symptoms come and go it depends on how my immune system is handling it.
It really is oral HPV. It may never lead to anything but when the inside of your mouth turns white and the oral tissue is peeling it is oral HPV. I also have the white lines on the inside of my mouth and my tounge is usually white with white lines on the sides of it. I have been to several doctors and all have said it is oral HPV.
Having a biopsy is not any big deal. It takes 2 seconds for them to take a tiny piece of the tissue. If you get it done and it comes back with hyperplasya then it is a sign of oral HPV. Look on the HPV website you will find out alot of info. Many doctors don't know about the new studies that Johns Hopkins is doing. More people are getting oral cancer from HPV than from smoking or drinking alcohol. My doctor said 90% of people with oral cancer is caused from HPV. They have found hpv in the tumors that have been removed. When in doubt, biopsy. If you decide not to biopsy, please do self exams once a month and check every area of your mouth.
I really think you should look at the oral HPV website and learn as much as you can. You will not believe how much info there is on this. If more people knew about this they would not blame toothpaste and mouth wash companys.
Take care

Molly, Jean,
I went to the dermatologist and she said that it was not Lichen Planus as my dentist had suggested. I no longer experience the bits of white goop that I was previously able to pick out of my mouth. I relate this to my no longer using Colgate sensitive - maximum protection toothpaste and Listerine mouth wash. I am now using Sensodyne (the blue gel one) and Biotene mouthwash. I continue to experience dry mouth caused by medication I am taking. The dermatologist said that the white lines on the insides of my cheeks are bite lines from wearing my dental appliance (where my cheek tissue gets caught between the appliance while I sleep).
I see the dermatologist again next week and the dentist the week after, so I hope to obtain more clarification. The dentist did suggest that I could see an oral pathologist to have a biopsy taken, but he said that he thought it would be pointless to have the pain of that when the current condition causes no pain. He prescribed a steroid gel which the dermo said I should not use as the condition it was prescribed for isn't apparent in my mouth.
I am going overseas on holiday in a couple of weeks and so will avoid the biopsy. I may consider it when I get back though to put my mind at rest.
How are you managing with your condition and have either of you found out any more information?

FREDDIE,
You are right about the HPV. that is what it is. White lines on the inside of your cheeks and tounge, mouth peeling those are symptoms of HPV. Alot of people on this blog have this but they think it is from toothpaste or mouth wash. I wish people would just listen! If you have ever had oral sex and your mouth peels or has white lines in cheek you have HPV!!

You guys aren't imagining things. I called my dentist about similar symptoms from Chlorhexidine. My dentist called it sloughing. I googled it and found a scientific test with Listerine and Crest Pro Health. Here is the link.

Hey I have something else going on but I thought someone might know what it is. I'm 26 and I've been getting this slimy gunk all on my tongue and sometimes around the outside of my lips or on the sides inside my mouth. I've had this issue for at least 5 years. I think it's usually whitish. I usually just scrape it off in the morning so it's not a huge deal. Anyone know what it could be from?

I have been getting these variations of mouth sores, tongue, striations on the inside cheek area. One Dr. specialist told me no big deal because he gets them too.
I have done some research and think it is from oral sex over the years. I used to have oral 3 or 4 times a year. As soon as I did, a few days later, a mouth or tongue sore would pop up. My GF was in denial. They were coming and going.
Once I went almost a whole year without eating/ oral sex. No flairups or anything.
But as soon as I did oral, it popped back up. Now I've researched the HPV culprit and it seems to be 98% the cause. Another dental specialist claims it to be eptopic ulcer from stressing. I have stress but I disagreed with him. I did some more searching and found a site that had a picture of my tongue sore that was identical.
I took a camera phone picture and showed him as by the time I get in an appointment to see him, the thing has cleared up. During the flairup, it hurts like hell and smells like rotting flesh/ doo doo. Some other sites claim it is a form of cancer. This version leaves a round white sore, a related version leaves the white striations on the inside cheeks. I thought maybe it was from the 25 years of having the silver filling in my teeth. Dentists now a days say they don't use the silver amalgan. I'm thinking maybe that could be a cause similar to what lead poisoning will do to you. Also fluoride is a bad thing for us. Parts per billion over 20, 30, 40 years and we wonder why we have these ailments???? The chemical companies give us the song and dance about how flouride is supposed to make your teeth strong. Don't we know that it is a by-product of making lightweight aluminum for airplanes and other products. Flourine chemical composition is what they use in mustard gas to kill people. The byproduct of it has to be disposed somehow. What better way than to dump it in the water and claim that it is good for the teeth.
