Meanwhile…

A little update from the ranks of the unemployed. Being Father’s Day weekend, I decided to head back to my hometown of Memphis to spend a little quality time with my old man. Typically Memphis is about the most boring place you can be in the world. I thought I loved this place when my mom moved me away 16 years ago. Now I know the truth, it’s a shit hole.

Fortunately enough for me, there’s a BBQ competition going on this weekend and my father’s team is competing in it. This is something he’s been doing for the past few years and really loves it. I love showing up to these things, too because there’s a metric-ass-ton of food to eat and all the booze a boy could want. The best part is, I’m not required to do anything… just sit, eat, drink, repeat. I’ll come home 10lbs heavier and with an improved tolerance (which is reaching scary proportions already).

Employment News: I had an interview yesterday before I headed out of town. It’s for an incredibly short project with a charity downtown. Me, working for a charity … priceless. The interview went well but the guy asked that I be tested on Microsoft Access. Whatevs… After driving 6 hours through Alabama and Mississippi (scary) and spending a late night at the BBQ thingy, I hopped online and took the test. In my exhausted and drunken stupor, I scored an 86%. The global average is 75% so I guess that means I’m better than the globe. The part that struck me as amusing was the test breaks your score down in three categories: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. I got a 92% on Beginner, only a 67% on Intermediate, but 100% on Advanced. I guess that means if a project is REALLY hard, I’m your man. If it’s a moderate project however, you best look elsewhere… I’ll be fumbling with my own poo while singing ‘This Little Light of Mine.’

That is all.

The recruiter emailed me and said I got a “good score” and that we’ll talk some time today. We’ll see.

I wish I could go back to Memphis. I have lots of friends bugging me to do what? That’s right drink and party…The only thing there is to do in Mempho. Have fun on your trip.
