The Reverend
Last night I drug Lori and Brian to the Reverend Horton Heat show at the Roxy. It was the first time I’ve been to the Roxy since seeing They Might Be Giants years and year and years ago… Not much has changed.
By the time we got there, the first opening act, Nashville Pussy, was already on stage. They’re a local Atlanta band and not what I expected as an opener for The Reverend. They play a much harder style music but it was pretty good. There was one song I liked a lot but can’t remember the name. It said something like, “Go Mother Fucker” a lot. I enjoyed that.
The second act was Hank III. They were much more like what I expected… big ol’bass, fiddle, and a twangy voice. That lasted for about 6 songs. Then they became Nashville Pussy on steroids. I think Brian liked. They weren’t bad.
Finally The Reverend came on stage and I was surprised to find out how old he is. I’ve been a fan of the music since the mid 90s but never saw any pics of the band. Regardless, he played several of my favorite songs, Bales of Cocaine, 400 Bucks, The Devil’s Chasing Me… but they left out two of my all time faves, Eat Steak and One Time for Me. Doesn’t matter. It was a great show.
Much thanks to Brian and Lori for going to the show with me. Now it’s off to iTunes to find some Nashville Pussy and Hank III.
