I suppose if I had to quote sources, one source that would summarize all lore is the ever trusty Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual v3.5.  Vampires are given the Purity of Body feat, which has immunity to all diseases (the game's way of including the lore into gameplay).

If you want more research, google it.. I'm sure it's well documented.  But it's one of those facts that I took for granted as common knowledge that clearly wasn't ;)</description>
