Digging Obama

Nope, I’m not a fan or a supporter of The Big O. The title is actually referring to a new site where you can prioritize national issues Digg-style for our Prez-Elect. The site, White House 2, has lists of all types of issues and lets users add their own. You skim through them and Endorse (”Digg”) whichever you agree with. There’s no “UnDigg” feature but you can Unendorse a proposal if you change your mind on the issue or simply endorse it by mistake. You can also rank all of your endorsements from highest to lowest as well as leave/read comments on each proposal made. It’s pretty cool. I have no clue if O’s staff will pay any attention to what’s said here but here’s hoping they do. Below are my top ten thus far…

  1. FairTax - No surprise here. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big advocate of the FairTax
  2. Expose Tax Earmarks Publicly on the Internet - Let’s hold these douchebags accountable. Too much of our tax dollars are being spent on worthless projects. I don’t believe that would be the case if politicians had to stick their name on these earmarks.
  3. Cut Spending / Reduce National Debt - Does this really need justification?
  4. Domestic Oil Drilling Off Shore and ANWR - Can’t understand why anyone disagrees with this.
  5. Stop the Bailouts and Implement Free Market Solutions - We already have bail out solutions in place. It’s called bankruptcy.
  6. End the Drug War - It’s costly, ineffective, and who really cares if I choose to OD on Ambien? Legalize it all. And in case you’re wondering, no, I do not and have never done drugs.
  7. Permanently End the Death Tax - Taxes were paid on all that income when it was made. What right do we have to tax it again?
  8. Repeal the 17th Amendment - This is one I added. The Senate was supposed to represent the state governments so they would have a say in national affairs.
  9. Capture Osama bin Laden - Cause he’s douche.
  10. Civil Unions for All - No Government Recognized Marriage - This makes more sense than legalizing gay marriage.

I had an idea for a site similar to this a few years ago but never did anything with it. My idea was slightly different in that you could see your elected officials position or voting record on issues you’ve identified as the most important. A site which did this could really be used to hold politicians accountable and help citizens make clear and educated voting decisions.

It’s a pretty cool site and I’ll probably start frequenting it often. I hope you also enjoy.

Not a bad site. I am hopeful as well that these endorsements get heard.

The more I tinker around on it, the more I like it. Their ‘Invite People’ part is whack though. You can only invite one at a time … they need to implement the Import Address Book function all the major sites use now.
